Brenda W. Clough

Brenda Clough has written a number of fantasy novels for DAW as B. W. Clough. Most recently, she has been writing science ficiton with magical elements concentrating on ethical issues related to extraordinary power.

Julie E. Czerneda

A talanted and prolific Canadian author of science fiction, including the "Web Shifters" and the "Trade Pact" series. Julie is also an editor, and active in using Science Fiction in schools. Her books frequently mix elements of Space Opera with exotic and sympathetic aliens, emotional entanglements and touches of humor.

Ansen Dibell

Ansen Dibell has written the "Kantmorie Saga", a series of novels about a regressed colony, the effects of genetic meddling and high technology on a gradually developing society, and the life of a young man whose struggle to find a happy synthesis between races and technical levels parallels the world.

Jane Haddam

Jane Haddam is the author of a number of mysteries, most recently a series about a retired FBI agent Gregor Demarkian, and his friends from the Armenian neighborhood in Philadelphia. Jane has also written books as Orania Papazoglou.

Laurell K. Hamilton

A writer of dark fantasy novels, Hamilton is well known for her "Anita Blake" series, set in an alternate US with vampires and werewolves. Her books feature strong female heroines, plenty of wise cracks and unflinchingly brutal fighting, and frequent sexual tension.

P. C. Hodgell

A very talented and inventive writer of dark fantasy, Hodgell writes books with dense interleaved plots, touches of the macabre and glints of humor, and likable characters.

Laurie R. King

A writer of mysteries featuring female heroes, King is well known for her "Mary Russel" series. Her writing is skilled in instilling sympathy for her characters, and she is good at understated, mostly implied portrayal of tension, fear and affection.

Jane Routley

The author of several fantasy books about Dion, a woman mage, Routley's first-person narrative is engaging, and her heroine is very believable in both distress and joy.

Melissa Scott

Melissa Scott has written a number of books, many dealing with complex social issues in a futuristic technological environment. Most of her books use members of the disenfranchized classes as protagonist, often thrust by need and desperation to make a change in the society which exploits and ignores them. She also likes to explore the issues of artificial intelligence and alternative sexualities.

Kristine Smith

Kristine Smith writes tense, politically charged mysteries about a former captain, linguist and document examiner. Suffering from effects of Augmentation--a common combat enhancment, and an overdose of the alien Idomeni culture and genetic material, Jani is a superb auditor, whose skills in finding and interpreting evidence are often overshadowed in the murk of the plots surrounding her fiends, allies, enemies and lovers; sets not always mutually exclusive.

Michael A. Stackpole

Michael Stackpole is a writer of several competent fantasies, which often combine an original idea with a number of traditional, even derivatives elements. His style is easy to read, but is fairly pedestrian.

Vernor Vinge

Vernor Vinge, a professor of computer science, writes some of the most exciting and thoughtful exploration of transhuman and superhuman intelligence and its implications. Some of his novels achive the rare balance of human interest, action, and rigorous and courageous scientific scientific speculation.

David Weber

David Weber has written a number of combat-filled science fiction and fantasy novels. He is well known for his "Honor Harrington" series of naval adventures in space. His books tend to be filled by strong characters, a lot of action, and quite a bit of travel.
