A mediocre mystery involving the dog-show crowd.

Genre: Mystery (Amateur Sleuth, Dog)

Synopsis: A young woman learning to exhibit her poodle tries to decipher a sudden death of her dog trainer.

Full Review: This is apparently the second in a series of "doggie" mystery novels featuring a young single parent, Melanie Travis, who is half-unwillingly involved in exhibiting her puppy in dog shows. There is a comfortable, even charming atmosphere around the narrator, her young son, assorted family and dogs. Unfortunately, the mystery is rather thin, and the actions of the heroine during the investigation of the death are neither particularly intelligent nor wise. The solution to the mystery was telegraphed fairly early, and the plot was rather predictable.

The dog-show world is only moderately interesting (we've had many "horse" and "cat" mysteries), and the mystery is about average. It is worth reading on an airplane, but there are better books around.
