Appealing characters, gritty but not grim reality of police work, and tense adventure make this a very satisfying fantasy.

Genre: Fantasy (Vampire, Police Procedural)
Synopsis: Detectives Gareth Mikaelian and Harry Takananda usually have pretty good results investigating homocides in San Francisco. However, the strange condition of the latest victim exposes them to the strangest murderer of their career.
Full review: This book is actually an omnibus of two earlier published novels: Bloodhunt and Bloodlinks. The two novels are sequels, featuring the same core characters, but describing fully complete, if related, plotlines.
While less original now, after years of vampire/mystery subgenre success, these books still capture the inagination with the quality of the characters. The plots are generally predictable, but the process of getting the villains is solid and satisfying in the tradition of good police procedural, and the main characters' discoveries change the main characters, particularly Gareth in significant and interesting ways.
The combination of appealing characters, their development and interaction, and tension combine into a very satisfying book.
Overall: 6.5; Plot: 65; Characters: 6.5; Style: 6; World-building: 6; Originality: 5;
